God's Disarmament Treaty: the (Rain)bow

In Dallas, we recently had a dangerous, torrential downpour shortly followed by the full arc of a rainbow in the sky (pic below is outside our apartment) reminding us of God's gracious promise: yes, the rain water might kill some, but it would not be used by God to destroy all.

I was also reminded of something I discovered several years ago from Dempster in his Dominion and Dynasty: the word in Genesis 9:13 that we often assume in English as 'rainbow' is really 'weapon or bow' (which makes sense, since a rainbow takes the shape of an upside-down bow weapon).

"To guarantee it [the rainbow covenant] he tosses his weapon in the sky in the first unilateral disarmament treaty! Thus the discarded (rain)bow is a covenant sign, a visible reminder to God (and humanity) of the promise of grace for the world," p. 73.
