This week, Elizabeth and I have the opportunity of spending time with my family, and my sister and brother-in-law and their baby. We have been talking some about economics and the book
Freakonomics
entered our discussion. Elizabeth and I read some of this thought-provoking book a couple years ago. Here are some examples of the chapter titles:
- Discovering cheating as applied to teachers and sumo wrestlers
- Information control as applied to the Ku Klux Klan and real-estate agents
- The economics of drug dealing, including the surprisingly low earnings and abject working conditions of crack cocaine dealers
- The negligible effects of good parenting on education
- The socioeconomic patterns of naming children
We learned that there is a new book out along these same lines, called
SuperFreakonomics
