- philosophe - 'philosopher' [Rousseau's writings and thoughts helped shape the French Revolution of July 14, 1789, which happened after his death]
- musicien - 'musician' [Rousseau had invented a musical numbering system he hoped would make his fortune, but it never did. His system was rejected by the French Academy.]
- choux - 'cabbage' [the garden behind the house had medicinal and food plants for Rousseau]
- vignes - 'grape vines' [a terrace of grape vines was adjoining the house and the garden]

Rousseau, Part 2
We took a class field trip this week a short distance behind our school to visit a house (pictured below) where Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) had lived when he was 24 until he was 30 years old. We greatly enjoyed having a tour all in French with our French teacher who could explain new or difficult-to-understand vocabulary. Some words we learned included:
