Today in the News...
Our French teacher called us célébrités ("celebrities") and handed us a recent newspaper article. We made page 5 in the local paper last Thursday, the 12th!
We had talked with a reporter at our official welcome to the town by local government officials a couple weeks ago, but we did not know until today that it had been published.

ReplyDeleteWe are able to read some of it, but we are neither famous nor infamous! Here is my imperfect attempt at translating some of the article:
The article mentions where we came from (US and Min) and that we plan to stay a year. We are quoted as saying something like, "When we arrived here 2 weeks ago, we found an apartment and visited the town, and we were pleased with whatever we saw."
The article then mentions how many people live here (about 400,000), and poses the question of why we students chose this place to live? We are quoted as saying something like, "It is much better to be in a small town because of the kind of experience it provides. We don't feel lost, and we are close to everything, lakes and mountains, and so it is very attractive."
The article then mentions where we are students here for a linguistic experience in French and that our French school attracts a large number of foreigners into the town.
We conducted the brief interview in English, and our comments seem to be quite accurate in French and in the paper to what we said in English!
