Regions Hospital (St. Paul, MN) Closing Abortion Facility

What great news!

40 Days for Life reports:

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, my cell phone rang with the exciting news from Brian Gibson (head of Pro-Life Action Ministries and Minneapolis/St. Paul 40 Days for Life campaign leader) that Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota was closing down its abortion facility! 

This closure follows SEVEN 40 Days for Life campaigns held in the right-of-way outside the hospital, publicly exposing their deadly side business. 

In news stories over the weekend, hospital officials admitted that abortions at their facility had declined by 40% over the past few years and that abortion was no longer economically viable. 

Praise God for answered prayers, and congratulations to all the Twin Cities groups and individuals whose efforts over the years contributed to this victory. This makes the 19th abortion facility to close following a 40 Days for Life campaign outside its doors!

House Voted to Strip Planned Parenthood Funding

Points of interest on this historic 240-185 vote:

• Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) read aloud a passage from 'Unplanned' - the bestselling book by former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnson about her conversion during a 40 Days for Life campaign
• Following graphic details given by Chris Smith about the abortion procedure, a personal speech was made by Jackie Speier (D-CA) detailing her abortion experience and registering disagreement with the amendment.  
• ABC's article was one-sided (surprised?), only talking about the vote as an anti-choice agenda
• Planned Parenthood is America's largest abortion chain and debate lasted more than 2 hours in the House
• The amendment next goes through the Senate

Making sense of the Health Care Bill

Matthew Anderson posted some helpful FAQ on what just happened. Here are the questions he answers:

• Did the Senate health care bill, which was the bill under consideration, cover abortions initially?
• But isn’t this bill covered by the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal funding for abortions?
• So Stupak solved this with the Executive Order, right?
• Why did Stupak cave, then?
• Did Stupak get anything for it?
• And pro-lifers?
• Can we be done talking about this now?
