Water for Cameroon

We just recently heard about this Ireland-launched project called Water for Cameroon to help with well-digging, bio-sand filters, and teaching about clean water in Cameroon, particularly in the Ndop Plain in the North West Region. 

The majority of people reading this article will have access to clean drinking water that is safe for them and their children to drink. On the other hand very few of the two hundred thousand people living on the Ndop Plain in North West Cameroon have access to clean water. 

We are working with these people to help in providing wells in their villages. For generations these people depended on muddy streams and open wells for their daily drinking water needs. Diseases like typhus, cholera, dysentery and malaria are often carried in the polluted water of these streams and wells. Needless to say that these diseases cause much sickness and death, especially to young children.

On an international scale, the World Health Organization estimates that a child dies every eight seconds due to a water-related disease.

Work has begun on constructing wells in the villages that make up the Ndop Plain. We are attempting to build thirty wells over the five year period of the project.
