CareStart released a product that allows the patient to do an in-home test to find out within 5-20 minutes if he has malaria, and even to identify which of the 4 main strands of malaria it is (treatment is different for the different strands). The market for these Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) is booming according to medical personnel.
An example of the results tested for CareStart, showing it to be quite
precise:
Overall sensitivity for the detection of the P.falciparum [the malaria that is cerebral and deadly] was 88.8%, increasing to 94.3% and 99.3% at parasite densities above 100/μl and 1000/μl respectively.
it is amazing how the medical industry has advanced in the knowledge of our human body and diseases.. are the RDT's available thru Carestart or does it have to be a perscription thru a doctor? mom
