Factors that Improve Pace and Quality of Bible Translation Checking

A colleague of mine, Jim Vinton (Director of Translation Consulting at Seed Company), surveyed our translation consultant corps to research the factors that improve the pace and quality of Bible translation checking. Here's his display of the findings:

Most significantly, #5 was rated the highest factor by us consultants for improving our pace of accuracy checking: "Working with a well-done draft." Factor #4 was a close second: "Working with a well-trained translation team." Those two factors square with my personal experience.

All 12 questions tabulated above are:

1. Working with a team I've worked with before improves our PACE.
2. Working with a book I've worked on before improves our PACE.
3. Working with a team that speaks a language related to one I've worked in before improves our PACE.
4. Working with a well-trained team improves our PACE.
5. Working with a well-done draft improves our PACE.
6. Having dealt with some minor issues (by PT notes, etc) before the consulting session starts improves our PACE.
7. My working with a team whose culture I understand improves our PACE.
8. When the team has access to a translation facilitator (who helps them improve their work), this improves our PACE.
9. Our having access to an UNS [Unitiated Native Speaker] during the consulting session (to help test the translation improves our PACE.
10. The team's having done PT [Paratext] checks before the consulting session improves our PACE.
11. Having a good quality written back-translation improves our PACE.
12. Having a good quality written back-translation 30 days before the consulting session improves our PACE.
